Celebrating 60 Years with Anne & Ron!

Happy Anniversary!

Only a few weeks ago, our lovely owners Anne & Ron Pomykala celebrated 60 years of marriage! Wow! The photo below was taken just two days before their anniversary as our staff was getting new head shots by the wonderful, B.O.B Photography! Anne & Ron married when she was 19 years old in 1958. We decided to interview Anne to see if she has any secrets to a long, happy marriage and included her responses below. Enjoy!

How did you and Ron meet?

We met at the Old St. Jerome Church in Hyattsville, MD while attending a novena service. My father helped build the new St. Jerome Church, which is where we got married.

How can other couples achieve a long-lasting marriage?

Both people have to give 100% all of the time and be dedicated to one another. Something we have done together and separately over the years is travel the world. I wouldn’t change those experiences for anything.

What is your favorite memory you have with one another?

We have six children, three boys and three girls. One of the best memories as a family is having us all gathered in the kitchen and eating together. Now Ron & I also have 13 grandchildren to keep up with and the love they bring to our lives is amazing.

How have weddings changed since you got married?

At Gramercy we do about 100 weddings a year, and the number continues to grow each year. Nowadays, the couple typically has control over how the wedding will take place, compared to my day when parents planned the entire event. I see photo booths and themed weddings now, which is different than traditional weddings of the past.

Describe your wedding dress style.

On my wedding day, I wore heels and a veil to accompany the dress that I sewed myself with the help of a friend and a pattern book. The seams were hand-stitched. Perhaps one of the most special memories about my dress was when my eldest daughter re-wore it on her very own wedding day.
