Raina has been a valuable member at Gramercy since 2006 when she began as an Innkeeper and Event Specialist. She hosted her own, unforgettable wedding at our Carriage House venue. Raina is now the Sales Executive for Koinonia Organic Farm, and handles countless details of day-to-day operations as an assistant to Anne. Also an ordained Wedding Officiant of Weddings by Raina, she is available to perform ceremonies to couples of all unions in the state of Maryland.
What helped you transition from being an Innkeeper to managing sales for Koinonia Organic Farm?
I am self-taught when it comes to sales for Koinonia, and didn’t have any background knowledge about what this type of job would entail. However, it peaked my interest and over the years I’ve expanded my insight into organic farming, managing the farm, etc. in order to maintain its successful reputation.
How long have you cared for animals?
I’ve had horses my entire life. With my husband and daughter, I also care for goats, sheep and pigs. We used to have chickens and exotic geese as well. Estella, 11, usually shows our animals when we attend the Carroll County Fair, the Maryland State Fair and all other open shows.
What’s the most enjoyable part of being an officiant?
A wedding day is one of the happiest days of my couples’ lives, and their family and friends’ lives as well. Experiencing that joy is something I’m truly grateful for. Since I began officiating over 10 years ago, I would estimate I’ve married over 100 couples, and I’m excited to continue doing so.
How have weddings at the Carriage House changed since you were married there?
In 2006 I hosted my own wedding at the Carriage House, and strung bistro lights across the courtyard. This was the first time that had ever been done, but we all liked it so much that bistro lighting became permanent. The inside of the Carriage House itself used to look completely different than it does today. There was a different paint color, no fireplace in the main reception space and the light fixtures have been updated.
During free time, what do you enjoy doing?
Hanging out with my family and taking care of the animals is what I spend most of my time doing.
