Spring Cleaning Tips & Tricks

Spring is quickly approaching so that means one thing other than getting rid of this cold winter weather: spring cleaning. It’s time to jump in and deep clean your home and maybe start those renovation projects you’ve been putting off. Thanks to Listotic’s 55 Must-Read Cleaning Tips and Tricks, I have learned some tips and tricks to help clean.

1. Scrub the cabinets
Cabinets are constantly getting used and collecting all of the dirt from hands and food being splashed around. The tough-to-clean grime can be gotten rid of with baking soda and vegetable oil. Mix one part vegetable oil and two parts baking soda together and scrub either with a cloth/rag or toothbrush (for the hard to reach areas).

2. Get rid of pet hair/fur in carpets
Here is a simple solution to get rid of the pesky pet hair/fur that is getting into your carpets: use either a window squeegee or damp rubber gloves and wipe your carpet. You will be surprised at how much this material can pick up!

3. Clean the blinds
This is an area that isn’t focused on or thought about much. Mix equal parts warm water and vinegar and use a sock (on your hand) to wipe in between the blinds. The dirt and dust will come right off. When necessary, rinse the sock in clean water and start fresh.

4. Remove white heat marks on wood furniture
Good news! The white spots you get from having a hot dish on your table (even with a table cloth on) can be gotten rid of. These spots happen because of the heat and moisture that accumulates under the surface and finish of your furniture. Take a few layers of cloth and place it on top of the spot, put your iron on a medium setting, and move around over the spot for about 15 seconds.

Now it’s time to focus on the home renovation projects you’ve been putting off for too long. Maybe it’s time to repaint your bathroom or ceilings, take down wallpaper, or reupholster your furniture. Spring cleaning and home renovation projects have started early at Gramercy Mansion! Here is a little motivation from the projects that are in progress and completed at the mansion.

We stripped the wallpaper in the foyer, up the staircase, and in the library. Before and after pictures will be provided when we are finished. Primer has been put on the walls and we are just about ready to start painting! The bathroom in the Blue Garden Suite has been repainted.
