Celebrating Pride Month

Pride Month History

Did you know that June is Pride Month? LGBTQ Pride Month is an annual celebration in honor of the 1969 Stonewall Riots in Manhattan. Festivities include parades, parties, workshops, picnics and more! The overall purpose of Pride Month is to commemorate and recognize the impact LGBTQ individuals have on local and worldwide history (Library of Congress).

LGBTQ is an acronym that stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Queer. The “Q” can also represent the word, “questioning,” but either interpretation is accepted according to USA Today.

First Flag

The first rainbow flag made its appearance at the San Francisco Pride Parade in 1978. San Francisco artist, Gilbert Baker, designed the flag, which was hand-dyed with eight symbolic colors: Hot Pink (sexuality), Red (life), Orange (healing), Yellow (sunlight), Green (nature), Turquoise (magic/art), Blue (serenity/harmony) and Violet (spirit).

When the flag was in higher demand, hot pink was not an available color. To keep an even number of stripes on the flag, hot pink and turquoise were removed to give us the flag we recognize today with six stripes (Huffington Post).

To celebrate and honor Pride Month, we are featuring our March 2017 wedding of Terry and Lynn and our May 2017 proposal of Jordan and Jeff.

Terry & Lynn

This beautiful couple tied the knot in front of the Carriage House fireplace. The chilly, yet sunny day was highlighted with some sparkling snow on the garden’s grounds.

Terry and Lynn have been together for 39 years, originally meeting in college. For their special day, the pair wanted an intimate and quick wedding highlighting their love for one another. Beautiful floral arrangements from RadeBaugh Florist, located in Towson, MD, decorated the mantle of the fireplace and pillars next to the couple pictured below. Our beloved assistant manager, Shannon, was the officiant.

After the exchange of rings, a small champagne toast concluded the ceremony with their closest family and friends. Best wishes to Terry and Lynn for many more years filled with love!

Jordan & Jeff

Our next wonderful couple first met in high school and have now been together for three years.

Jordan decided he wanted to propose to Jeff at Gramercy Mansion because the pair has a passion for architecture. They also wanted to visit Maryland, so Jordan felt that the mansion would be a great venue for the proposal.

The sun was shining and the gardens were blooming on this lovely, spring day. With flower petals and candles in front of our white marble gazebo and champagne waiting to be opened, Jeff said yes! While the couple does not have any definite wedding plans, they are entertaining the idea of an outdoor wedding with 100 people or more.

We want to wish Jordan and Jeff a lifetime of happiness together! Cheers!
