The beautiful spring-like weather last weekend (I know, hard to remember beneath the blanket of snow this morning!) was the perfect setting for a gorgeous bridal open house at our sister property, 1840s Plaza.  Here at Gramercy Mansion, we were lucky enough to be at this popular open house along with other favorite Maryland wedding vendors.  We work with some of these vendors often including Francesca’s Bridal, a featured bridal salon at our upcoming bridal tea and beauty workshop, Dance Masters Entertainment, Kyle Bergner Photography, Kindly RSVP Designs and Antares Musicians.

Holiday Party Planning Checklist

Holidays at Gramercy

If planning the perfect office holiday bash has you scratching your head and wondering where to begin, start with our handy check list.  Planning now eliminates stress come December when you’d much rather be wrapping gifts, guzzling egg nog and humming along to holiday tunes.

  • Choose a venue and book a date. Be it the office lunch room, a local restaurant or private event venue, find a location that suits your budget and comfortably accommodates your guest list.  Most importantly, reserve it as soon as possible before the best dates are taken.
  • Plan the menu. If you’re using a venue, you may have to separately contract a caterer.  Make sure you know the details (onsite caterer, approved list or open to outside caterers) before you book.  If you’re planning at a restaurant, discuss menu options based on the time of day – cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, seated dinner, buffet luncheon.  Or research restaurants and caterers who will deliver to the office.  Keep your office’s general food preferences in mind and include vegetarian options when possible.  Decide if you’ll offer alcohol as well.  And don’t forget about non-alcoholic beverages, too.
  • Send out a save the date. It’s the busiest time of the year so be sure to e-mail a save the date to all employees once the when and where are finalized (preferably at least a month before the party to ensure a good turn out).  As party time approaches, you can send updates including any details for a gift exchange or charity donation, special entertainment to look forward to (a great band, photo booth, casino games, etc.), or a preview of what’s on the menu.
  • Set the scene. If your venue won’t be decked out for the holidays, start thinking about some festive decor to put party goers in the mood for fun.  Twinkle lights, evergreen wreaths and garlands, candles in hurricane glasses, wooden nutcracker centerpieces, poinsettias… pick up items at craft stores now before the mad rush.  Give centerpieces away as door prizes to minimize clean up.  Pick up plastic bins with lids to store items that can be reused for next year’s party – be sure to clearly label.
  • Crank up the holiday tunes. Whether downloading a playlist to your iPod, hiring a d.j. to get the party started on the dance floor or a jazz band for fun and classy entertainment, nothing creates a celebratory vibe like music.
  • Give a perfect gift. Recognize stand out employees with something special.  Gift certificates for lunch at a favorite restaurant, fruit and snack gift baskets, gourmet chocolates, local wines.  Consider reaching out to businesses your company partners with throughout the year to see if they would be willing to donate a door prize for your holiday event.  If your group enjoys exchanging gifts, arrange a “Secret Santa” ahead of time.  Or set up a table to collect donations for a local charity or food drive.
  • Enjoy! You did a great job so relax, chat with colleagues, indulge in an extra dessert, boogie on the dance floor, pose for group photos and enjoy yourself.

Baltimore County Events This Weekend

As the summer days come to an end, we celebrate the beginning of September as the kick off to Fall. Baltimore County has an abundant number of events taking place through September. Here are a few taking place this weekend, September 6- 8th.

  • Defenders Day: Battle of North Point Reenactment, September 7th and 8th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Fort Howard Park. Come commemorate the Battle of North Point in 1812 with war reenactments, history, children’s games, theatrical productions, refreshments and more. Admission and parking are free.   • Feet on Street on Allegheny Ave in Towson tonight, Friday September 6th from 6 p.m. to 9:30 pm. Enjoy live music, children’s moon bounces, activities and vendors. Food and wine available for purchase. Remember your beach chair for your evening under the stars!
  • The Reisterstown Festival is ready to celebrate their last week of summer with another year of family fun. September 7th and 8th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. take joy in live music, car  and motorcycle show, a parade, local vendors, children’s area and fireworks.

Elopements at Gramercy Mansion

It’s our pleasure to welcome many couples to celebrate their wedding day at Gramercy Mansion – some extravagant affairs and some intimate ceremonies.  Each duo has a unique story to tell and we’re happy to share the following real life love stories with you!  Thank you Alycia & Alan and Emily & Jason for sharing with us!

My husband Alan and I met in high school. Alan had his heart set on me from day one, but I just wanted to be friends at first. We stayed friends for three years before we made it official. After five years of dating, we found out we were expecting a baby girl.  Alan proposed to me under the moonlit sky on a bench in a local park.

We began to plan a big elaborate wedding but started to get side tracked in all the overwhelming details! After finding the Gramercy Mansion online there was no question we wanted to elope there! It was perfect to be able to invite just our immediate family to share in our day! We wanted our wedding to be a celebration of our eternal love and commitment, not about guest favors or the DJ. Don’t get me wrong those weddings are a lot of fun but we wanted a more intimate feeling. And Gramercy sure delivered that!

Our favorite part of the day was the moment we saw each other! We were standing right beside one another but large bushes were separating us and keeping us out of sight. The anticipation gave me butterflies in my stomach and my husband said he felt the same. We surprised our guests by letting them see when we finally saw one another for the first time. We had originally planned on meeting inside the mansion and walking down the isle together. To everyone’s pleasant surprise we let them in on the best moment of finally locking eyes and arms! We were married under the gazebo and we stayed two nights in the Camelot room! It was the most amazing and relaxing experience! The last night, we got back from dinner and our room was filled with candles and rose petals, it was a beautiful way to end our honeymoon.

Jason and I are excited to share our love story….

How did you first meet?

Jason and I first met in Mr. Hardison’s 1987 French class at Franklin Middle School in Reisterstown.  We were both in the 7th grade and met on the very first day.  I was seated next to Jason and  we spent the next 4 years taking French together and funny enough, sitting next to each other each year.  We were instant best friends for the next 5 years.  Our love story didnt pick up until several years later….

What made you decide to elope?

We have known each other for 25 years and although we ‘needed’ to be married to start a family, we had been reunited over 3 years earlier and quickly fell in love.  We are both in our upper 30s and wanted to invite only family and friends to our ceremony.  We eventually plan on having a 1 year anniversary where we plan on inviting friends and family to a larger celebration.

What is your favorite memory of your wedding day?

This sounds so cheesy but seeing Jason as I rounded the corner.  He was the first person I saw and as our eyes met everything else just disappeared.  It was just like magic!!  The venue was absolutely perfect with the white lights against the dark sky.  It was like a fairy tale.

Did you surprise your guests and, if so, how did they react?

We actually didn’t do anything grandiose but simply telephoned a few friends and family and told them ‘enough is enough, we are getting married in 2 weeks!!’  Everyone was as excited as we were!! Perfect!  Just Perfect!!
